About Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport
Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is the primary airport serving Jakarta, Indonesia and has the IATA code CGK. This code originates from Cengkareng, the name used frequently by locals. The airport is located 12 miles (20km) northwest of Jakarta in Tangerang, Indonesia. It is one of the 40 busiest airports in the world, but consistently is ranked as one of the 5 most punctual airports in the world. An estimated 32 million passengers fly through each year.
Soekarno-Hatta currently has 3 terminals, with the newest Terminal 3 opening in 2009. Terminal 1 has three sub-terminals and is devoted to domestic flights from Indonesian airlines. Terminal 2 also has three sub-terminals and is devoted to international airlines. Terminal 3 focuses on low-cost airlines and is being expanded through 2020. Terminal 4 is also under construction. A free airport shuttle bus connects the terminals.
The airport offers limited facilities, including ATMs, banks, bars, duty free shops, restaurants and shops, tourist information, prayer rooms, and a transit hotel. There are also several first-class and business lounges.
Transportation options from the include car rental, taxi service, buses, and the train. Depending on traffic, it takes between 30-45 minutes to travel from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to the center of Jakarta. However, traveling to the airport can take up to 3 hours during the morning commute and up to 90 minutes after 4pm. A train service connecting Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Manggarai Station is planned, however, it is currently delayed indefinitely.
